Sri Lanka starts to use high tech drones and helicopters to arrest violators of quarantine regulations

Sri Lanka police and security forces have started the use of high tech drones and helicopters to discipline the people in locked-down areas. 

News bulletins showed footage of drone cameras and Air Force helicopters that spied in Modara locked-down area in Colombo city. Police and military personnel in large numbers were seen ready for raid and high power patrol motorcycles were shown entering into the areas later.

Police said that 15 persons who violated quarantine regulations had been arrested in raid. 

Police Media Spokesman Deputy Inspector General Ajith Rohana said to media that high tech drones would be used to spy the persons who violate travel restrictions.

Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) planning to open an aviation technology school in Digana

Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) is planning to open an aviation technology school in Digana Air Force camp in Kandy district. Commander of SLAF Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana announced this addressing media at Kandy on 7th November. 

The newly appointed 18th SLAF Commander visited the sacred Buddhist Temple of the Tooth in Kandy and invoked blessings there. 

The Air Force Commander said that the aviation technology school would educate youth on aero technology, engineering and other related subjects. 

He said that similar schools would be started in Northern, Eastern, North Central and Southern Provinces as well in future.

Sri Lankan athlete Nimali Liyanaarachchi accused of trying to get a second house from state

Asian gold medalist Sri Lankan sportswoman, 31-year-old Nimali Liyanaarachchi is accused of attempting to unethically obtain state allocations for building a house, Divaina newspaper reports. 

Nimali Liyanaarachchi tried to obtain funds from the Ministry of Sports to complete building a house in Suriyaweva in Hambanthota district whereas she has already received one house from the state.  

Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF), her employer, gifted her a house in Kottawa in Colombo district in 2016.

Nimali Liyanaarachchi won the gold medal for 800 meters in 2016 and 2017 Asian Games.

Sri Lanka to drop plan to buy Mig-29

(July 20, 2009 - Lanka Polity) Sri Lanka defense sources say that the attempts to purchase a fleet of Mig-29 aircraft are now permanently put off following the defeat of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealam (LTTE).

Sri Lanka now moves towards reconciliation and reconstruction and the defense needs are moving from a purely operational perspective to strategic, military sources say.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Navy has proposed to set up a maritime border patrol with helicopter and UAV operations from the larger bodied off shore patrol craft.
